i visited an ICT meeting and as a reminder i received a mouse pad in the form of a woven rug .. i havent been using a mousepad since the ninetees because they are unhandy ugly edgy restrictive sticky obsolete objects .. but anyway .. i like the colors shapes and the feel of the rug so i gave it a try .. and now what? i am back on the pad again

Les Baigneuses

Les Baigneuses

i had a reproduction of Picasso's Les Baigneuses on my wall for about 20 years and never realized it was painted in Biarritz, France .. i got a shiver when i entered the beach saw the lighthouse and realized this was it.

i strawled the beach to try to find the position where the artist stood to paint the picture and then found out there was not one position he took .. just like the bathing girls the whole picture is a mix of views from different positions and angles

Picasso oversized the lighthouse .. he added windows to this side of the tower .. he brought the beach closer to the lighthouse rock .. he filled the sea with rocks that are not there .. and there must be his genius .. he did not paint reality but composed it

old mandolin

old mandolin
Originally uploaded by screenpunk

A friend gave me this old mandolin that has been in use as wall decoration for decades in his mothers house. His mom had to move to a new home and before trashing the instrument my friend thought maybe he could make me happy with it. And yes he can!

I have never played mandolin but have been eager to try one for a while .. so here's a little test drive . The strings are old and rusty, one of them is missing, there's a crack in the back and my .. are the mandoline keys small for my big fingers. But what a bright powerfull sound it makes .. and what fun and honour to pick it from such an old instrument.

Petersburgse vertellingen

Petersburgse vertellingen

I'm into reading these days .. i picked up Gogol because of a movie actually .. The Namesake .. about a guy who gets named after Gogol because his fathers life is deeply connected with Gogols story "The Overcoat" (De mantel)

The tagline "In the end we all come from Gogols overcoat" made me want to read it. Now i read it, i do not really see how that relates, but the story is amazing. So far i also read "Diary of a madmen" (Dagboek van een krankzinnige) and thats very tragic, yet funny.

In the short stories Gogol writes on pointlessness in bureaucratic organisations and thats a theme i can relate to pretty well.
